Notes: The town of Bryan, Texas was named for William Joel Bryan, who was the nephew of Stephen F. Austin and one of the settlers of the area. Founded in 1821, the town grew rapidly after the Houston and Texas Central Railroad arrived in 1860. Located in Brazos County, Bryan became the county seat in 1866 and was incorporated in 1871.
