Netta Edwards Lamberth , age 88, passed from this life surrounded by loved ones and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, the 12th of December 2012. Born in Breckenridge, Texas, on the 1st of October 1924, to Charles Vernon and Ruby Orin Edwards, Netta was the youngest of three children. Always "Baby Sister" to her to older brothers, Bryan and C.V., Netta was a true Texas beauty who had all the boys fighting over her in school. But it was at Sunset High in Dallas, Texas, that she would meet the boy that would win her heart, Tom Lamberth . She and "Tom Tom" were high school sweethearts and continued dating when he went off to college at Texas A&M. Tom's schooling was interrupted by World War II where he served as a Lieutenant in the Air Force. After the war, Tom returned to school at Texas A&M and he and Netta were married in 1945. So began one of the great love stories of all time. Tom and Netta were partners in love, marriage and friendship for over 66 years. They had two sons, Chuck and Jimmy, and Netta relished her role as a mother to her two boys. Tom's career in the oil and gas business with Cooper Bessemer took them to many places in the Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas area. Netta 's chosen career was that of a devoted mother and homemaker. Her life revolved around her husband and two sons. Tragically, her son Jimmy was killed in a boating accident in 1974. Netta 's strong faith allowed her to get through this very difficult time. Netta proved to be as good a grandmother as she was a mother. She doted on her three grandchildren, Jami, Cathi and Chuck. "Mimi", as she was known to them, spent many hours at their various school and sporting activities and helped provide countless memories that they will always cherish. Tom & Netta were both devoted Christians who loved the Lord and they served the Lord wherever they went. They were active members of Second Baptist Church and developed many wonderful friendships in the Disciples and Ticket to Heaven classes that she and Tom were so active in. They were both volunteers at M.D. Anderson Hospital and were known for years as the "Jolly Trolley" couple. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Vernon and Ruby Orin Edwards; her brothers, Bryan Edwards and C.V. Edwards; and her son, James William Lamberth . She is survived by her husband, Tom Lamberth ; son, Chuck Lamberth and wife Kay; granddaughters, Jami Gerngross and husband Gavin, Cathi Hernandez and husband, Jesus; grandson, Chuck II; and great-grandchildren, Trina, Asher, and Lucas. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Monday, the 17th of December, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. A memorial service is to be conducted at noon on Tuesday, the 18th of December, in the Hankamer Chapel of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive in Houston, where Rev. Gordon Smith is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby deacons' parlor. Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston. In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those desiring, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 2242 W. Holcombe Blvd. Houston, TX, 77030; or to the Houston Area Parkinson's Society, 2700 S.W. Freeway, Ste. 296, Houston, TX, 77098.
