  [S129] Miscellaneous Newspaper Obituaries, (Various publications), 17 Dec 2012. RAYMOND SNEAD MAUK, 97, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 in Kerrville, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1924 and enjoyed a very long and successful career in the insurance business. In 1930 he was the youngest to be appointed and to serve as the State Fire Insurance Commissioner. His career then took him to Houston where he became a senior executive with the American General Insurance Company and a partner in John L. Wortham and Sons. During this time he headed a number of industry organizations and was involved in many civic activities. In 1968 he retired to his "Holiday Hill" in the Texas Hill Country between Ingram and Hunt where he pursued his hobbies of fine woodworking, gardening, family and friends. Much of his time was devoted to the Hunt United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Winnie Davis King Mauk; daughter, Peggy Barnett and husband Bill; daughter, Carol Pitts and her husband Paul; four grandchildren: Ann Barnett Stern and husband, Karl, Ned Barnett, Douglas Raymond Pitts and wife, Denise, Davis Pitts and wife, Lyndi and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18 at the Kerrville Funeral Home 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028 4:30-6:30.
